“Here’s to staying positive and testing negative!” Get ready to live it up with Netflix’s new adult animated comedy series Chicago Party Aunt, which premieres on Friday, September 17. Starring Lauren Ash, Rory O’Malley, and RuPaul, the eight 30-minute-episodes are based on show creator Chris Witaske’s popular Twitter account of the same name.
Chicago native and life of the party Diane Dunbrowski (Ash) may be stuck in the 1980s, but she makes up for her lack of “adulting skills” with love and loyalty to her family and friends. “Still, it’s clear Diane needs to adapt to the rapidly changing world around her unless she wants to become a relic of the past like her favorite Spuds McKenzie poster,” reads the show’s description.
When her only nephew Daniel (O’Malley) opts of out attending Stanford University to move in with her in Chicago, the two teach each other valuable lessons about holding on to the past while still moving on into the future. “The adult animated comedy follows Diane and Daniel as they navigate work, family, romance, and most of all, how to party their brains out in the best damn city in the world.”
Alongside Ash and O’Malley, the series stars RuPaul as new salon-owner Gideon, Jill Talley, Ike Barinholtz, Jon Barinholtz, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Katie Rich, and Witaske.
As Diane says in the trailer, “When life gives you lemons, you turn that s*** into Mike’s Hard Lemonade.” Scroll down for a first look at the animated series!
