Apple TV+ continues its A-list streak with the upcoming female-driven anthology series Roar which officially arrives with all eight episodes on Friday, April 15.
The darkly comedic series is based on the book of short stories by Cecilia Ahern and Apple TV+ is giving viewers their first glimpse with images featuring stars Nicole Kidman, Cynthia Erivo, Betty Gilpin, and Merritt Wever. The project from creators and co-showrunners Carly Mensch and Liz Flahive (GLOW) is part of their overall deal with the streamer.
Roar is described as an insightful, poignant, and occasionally hilarious portrait of what it means to be a woman in today’s world. The show utilizes a blend of magic realism and applies it to familiar domestic and professional scenarios as well as futuristic worlds. The eight stories mirror dilemmas that ordinary women face in surprising ways.
How they’ll emerge from their individual journeys reflects the resiliency that exists within these characters and with all women. Helping bring the stories to life with Kidman, Erivo, Gilpin, and Wever are fellow stars Issa Rae, Alison Brie, Meera Syal, Fivel Stewart, and Kara Hayward.
Along with starring in the show, Kidman serves as an executive producer alongside Flahive, Mensch, Per Saari, Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky, Allie Goss, Cecilia Ahern, and Theresa Park. Produced for Apple by Endeavour Content, Roar joins the streamer’s reputable slate of programming as well as upcoming titles like The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey and WeCrashed.
