The movie will officially debut on the streaming platform beginning Wednesday, March 2 in the United States and most international countries (the film launches March 9 in Taiwan and March 30 in Japan). Released in theaters later last year, West Side Story is the latest adaptation of the beloved musical putting Rachel Zegler and Ansel Elgort in the shoes of star-crossed lovers Maria and Tony.
Joining Zegler and Elgort in the film are Ariana DeBose as Anita, David Alvarez as Bernardo, Mike Faist as Riff, Brian d’Arcy James as Officer Krupke, Corey Stoll as Lieutenant Schrank, Josh Andrés Rivera as Chino, and Rita Moreno (who played Anita in the 1961 version) as Valentina, the owner of the corner store where Tony works.
Among the movie’s Oscar nominations are a nod for DeBose in the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role. West Side Story Also earned nods for Best Picture, Best Director, and more. West Side Story shares a classic tale of bitter rivalries and young love in 1957 New York City and helping bring Spielberg’s version to the screen is writer Tony Kushner who adapted the screenplay.
